When Inspiration meets Reality

Ever created an inspiration board? If not, I highly recommend it! Below is the board I created over a year ago with several pictures of ideas I wanted to use in my future house someday. All you need is a piece of canvas, modge-podge, and your favorite magazines!

Back in May we moved into our first house and over the summer, I had some time off to fix things up and, as my mother would say, "Nest." I've quite enjoyed letting my domestic side blossom over the past couple months and finally feel that I'm at the point to blog about our decorated home (even though I'm not sure a house will ever be fully 'decorated'...for I'm always changing things up...I know I get that from my mom!)

Anyway, I derived most of my inspiration from the POTTERY BARN August 2010 catalogue. As you will begin to notice, the picture on top is the 'inspiration picture' and the picture below it is the 'reality picture' (or what's in my house now). Enjoy!

Inspiration: (actually saw this at a McKinney Antique Store)

Reality:

Inspiration: (loved mirrors above bed)

Reality: (Josh & I's room)

Reality: (pictures in hallway)

Inspiration:

Reality: (this is actually in Josh's office. I bought burlap to cover the back of the HUGE bulletin board in his office)

Re-bar & Hobby Lobby hooks used to rest magazines upon.

Old trivits my mom found at a garage sale (an entire box of these were $5!) Inside are old flash cards found at an antique store.

Inspiration:

Reality: (so I don't have a fireplace mantel, but I did find this old header ripped out from a historic bldg in San Antonio. Found it at a garage sale for $20!)

Enclosed entry way:

I made these over the weekend using used votive candles, burlap, old tart cans, and vintage scrabble letters. BTW, it spells out BARNES in case you can't see it clearly!

Guest bedroom:

Now it's your turn, make whatever "inspires" you to become a reality. Good luck!
